We have a library of several thousand pictures, but due to our writing commitments,
we are unable to spend the time needed to create a searchable online database.
Instead, there are a few examples of our pictures below in order to provide an
idea of our coverage. After the picture section, we give some examples of the
subjects and places represented in our picture library.
We can supply our pictures for use in books, magazines, websites, and so on – for
a fee. We have pictures from mainly the United Kingdom, Europe and Egypt covering
history, heritage, archaeology and past civilisations. All the pictures are our
own copyright, which means that we have first-hand knowledge of the subjects and
can provide extended captions, if commissioned. We deal mainly with publishers.
It can be very expensive for authors to obtain pictures for a book through picture
libraries, unless their publisher is footing the bill! We do not usually charge
a search fee, so if you are a publisher, picture researcher or author requiring
pictures for a book or magazine, do please contact us with your requirements.
We try to keep our reproduction fees as simple and reasonable as possible. We
can send out low-resolution jpegs of what you require via email. Once you have
decided what to use, we can then email higher-quality digital images or post
them on a CD.
Please note that if you are a photographer, we do not buy, borrow, lease, or
whatever, any other people's photographs. We are a small, specialised picture
library. We are not an agency. There seem to be many organisations out there
who claim that picture libraries and agencies are desperate for pictures and
that you can make easy money this way. This is absolutely not true!
Try also the York Archaeological Trust’s picture library, which is particularly
strong in pictures relating to the Viking period, as well as techniques of
excavation. Their website is
